A RUGBY match in memory of former Old Laurentian and Lutterworth player Loz Sherriffs will be played next month.

Players from both teams will face a side put together by the Prison Service, for whom Mr Sherriffs worked, on Wednesday, May 28 at the Prison Service College in Newbold Revel. It will kick off at 6.30pm.

Mr Sherriffs died aged just 41 after playing a game for the Prison Service in October last year.

The memorial game is set to become an annual event to raise money for The Woodland Trust and a Children’s Heart Disease Charity.

A match will also take place between an OL’s veterans’ team and Metropolis RFC at the club’s Fenley Fields ground this Saturday to mark the 25th anniversary of their link up with the US side.

The line ups of both teams will feature players who faced each other back in 1989 when the two struck up a relationship which has seen annual visits to both sides of the Atlantic since.

It will be followed by a game between A teams from the two, kicking off at 3pm.
