College tackling skills gap in Rugby

Rugby Editorial 12th Jan, 2019   0

THE SKILLS shortage in Rugby is being tackled by a local college, businesses have heard.

The Rugby campus of Warwickshire College Group hosted the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce’s latest Rugby branch meeting – and gave firms the lowdown on how it works with business when structuring courses.

A Logistics Hub was recently opened at Rugby College on the back of meetings with the Chamber – and new specialisms in agriculture, horticulture, hospitality and cyber security have been introduced across the group of colleges to help meet the needs of the local economy.

Neil Coker, group vice principal for curriculum, also revealed the college is planning an industry day in 2019 to introduce students to construction, engineering and rail businesses.

Karen Shuter, branch chair of the Chamber, said: “The dialogue between business and education must continue for the good of companies, young people and the wider economy.”
