A CONFIDENT student at Avon Valley School has impressed judges of a public speaking competition with her passionate presentation.
Laura-Jane Dickson took to the stage at Coventry University to deliver her speech, entitled ‘Diversity in the Media’, for the regional final of The Speakers Trust’s Speak Out challenge.
Competing against students from seven other Warwickshire schools, the Year 10 student won third place.
She chose her subject after identifying an issue with people’s perception of body image when using and interacting with social media.
Avon Valley head teacher Alison Davies said: “Having seen the video of Laura-Jane speech I was very impressed with her confident delivery.
“Many adults find public speaking difficult which makes Laura-Jane’s achievement even more impressive.”
