THE LEADER of Rugby Borough Council has lost his seat in the local elections – leaving no party with an overall majority.

Conservative Seb Lowe lost his seat in Coton and Boughton Ward to Labour’s Senthil Periasamy by 96 votes – one of two seats which Labour took from the Tories.

The Labour candidate gained 909 votes to Mr Lowe’s 813.

Liberal Democrat Edward Blackburn came third with 127 votes, while the Green Party’s Roy Sandison gained 103 votes and Jamie Pullin of Reform UK came last with 64.

Labour’s Louise Robinson also gained a seat from the Conservatives in the Admirals and Cawston ward.

A total of 14 seats – a third of Rugby Borough Council’s 42 seats – were up for grabs in this year’s elections.

Despite having no overall majority, the Conservatives remain the largest party with 21 councillors, with Labour on 12 and the Liberal Democrats on 9.

Average turnout at the Rugby Borough Council elections was 33 per cent.
