Council considers creating new parking spaces in Lutterworth town centre

NEW free car parking could be created in Lutterworth town centre.

Harborough District Council (HDC) is considering creating some new ‘pop and shop’ car park spaces in Station Road car park when the spaces in Market Square car park are removed as part of a planned revamp.

Residents are currently being consulted on the final designs to make Market Square a more attractive, sociable space for residents and visitors.

Coun Jo Asher, HDC’s spokeswoman for Culture, Leisure, Economy and Tourism, said: “After listening to early feedback from residents and Lutterworth Town Council, we are now considering putting in some additional free, short stay car park spaces in Station Road car park to offset some of the loss of free spaces on the Market Square car park.”

The council will also discuss with Leicestershire County Council about possible changes to on-street parking arrangements to improve parking space availability and to try and maintain a similar level of free spaces as are currently available.

The proposed improvements are part of a wider Lutterworth Town Masterplan.
