CAREER options in Warwickshire will be easier to navigate thanks to a new initiative from the County Council.
Warwickshire County Council (WCC) has approved a new Careers Strategy, which aims to help anyone wanting to enter the world of work, change jobs, or re-train.
New web pages on the WCC website are being developed which will contain information for young people, parents, adults looking to retrain, care leavers, or businesses planning to recruit or develop their workforce.
The new Careers Strategy aims to raise awareness of local career opportunities, improve career advice at schools and colleges, help vulnerable learners, connect the supply and demand of skills, and encourage businesses to recruit from a wider talent pool.
WCC education spokesman Coun Colin Hayfield said: “Effective careers and employability advice and support are critical components of a successful local economy. They can help people gain the skills needed by local employers, and also facilitate social mobility by raising aspirations and highlighting career pathways individuals may not have thought of.
“We are placing a significant focus on supporting our more vulnerable residents, such as those with special educational needs and disabilities to move into employment. We also give special consideration to residents with mental health needs and the resources available to support them in the workplace.”
The revised Careers Strategy is based on the Government’s National Careers Strategy of December 2017, which highlights how timely careers and employability support boosts sustainable employment and higher earnings.
The new Careers Strategy web pages are due to go live later this month.
