Creative Rugbeians invited to take spotlight at Festival of Culture

Rugby Editorial 20th Feb, 2020   0

ACTORS, artists, comedians, crafters, dancers, musicians, poets and singers are invited to take the spotlight at the 10th Rugby Festival of Culture.

Individuals, amateur and professional organisations, and community groups are being encouraged to apply now for a slot at this year’s festival, which takes place during the last week in June.

The annual festival, supported by Rugby Borough Council and town centre management company Rugby First, has previously welcomed more than 8,000 visitors to the town to enjoy more than 100 events.

Over the last decade, it has hosted entertainment ranging from an open-air production of David Walliams’s Gangsta Granny to the final of the Rugby’s Got Talent competition.

The council’s growth and investment spokeswoman Coun Jill Simpson-Vince said: “The Festival of Culture is the perfect platform to promote Rugby’s diverse artistic talent alongside established acts from across the country.

“Homegrown talent makes a real contribution to the vibrancy and variety of the festival, and I’d encourage anyone interested in joining the festival line-up to apply.”

Rugby First operations director Rich Warren added: “Together with the food and drink festival and the start of Rugby School’s Festival on the Close, the last week in June will see the town centre buzzing and have a true festival feel to it. All we need now is the sunshine!”

Visit www.therugbytown.co.uk to apply to take part. Applications close on Friday February 28.

More details of the festival programme will be released in May.
