AN ANNUAL darts tournament will raise money for vital life-saving equipment in memory of a Rugby schoolboy who died of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) 14 years ago.
Lawrence Sheriff pupil Joe Spooner died in 2005 at the age of 15 while relaxing after a cricket match.
Since then, his parents Tracey and Stephen have kept his memory alive by raising tens of thousands of pounds with the help of cardiac charity SADS UK, helping to donate defibrillators to schools, sports clubs and community venues.
On Sunday (February 17), they will host the 12th annual Joe Spooner Darts Tournament at the Workers Club in Oliver Street. There will be a men’s and women’s darts competition, with the winner of each playing for the overall title.
Trophies supplied by long-standing tournament sponsor Bradley Electrical will be up for grabs.
Auction and raffle prizes include a caravan weekend in Skegness, a B&B break in Blackpool, a collection of nine mint-condition collectable toy meerkats, and a family tobogganing voucher.
The tournament takes place at The Workers Club in Oliver Street. Registration runs from 10.30am until 12.15pm, with the first game starting shortly afterwards. Tournament entry costs £4. Spectators can enter free.
