AN ANNUAL darts tournament will raise money for vital life-saving equipment this weekend, in memory of a Rugby schoolboy who died of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) 15 years ago.
Lawrence Sheriff pupil Joe Spooner died in 2005 at the age of 15 while relaxing after a cricket match.
Since then, his parents Tracey and Stephen have raised tens of thousands of pounds for cardiac charity SADS UK, donating defibrillators to schools, sports clubs and community venues.
On Sunday (February 16), they will host the 12th annual Joe Spooner Darts Tournament at the Workers Club in Oliver Street. There will be a men’s and women’s darts competition, with the winner of each playing for the overall title.
An auction and raffle will also be held.
The tournament takes place at The Workers Club in Oliver Street. Registration runs until 12.15pm. Entry costs £4. Spectators can watch for free.
ANOTHER charity darts tournament takes place this week in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
It takes place on Valentine’s Day (Friday February 14) at Benchmarx Kitchens and Joinery in Somers Road.
The winner of the tournament, which takes place from 7.30am to 5pm, will receive a steak dinner for two at Quigley’s.
Burgers, hot dogs and refreshments will be available. Entry costs £5.
