Defrosting car stolen from Lutterworth drive after owner leaves engine running

THE DRIVEWAY theft of a car in Lutterworth happened in a matter of minutes after the driver left the engine running while defrosting the windscreens.

The grey Audi Q5 estate car was stolen from Tedder Close just after 8am on Tuesday (January 19) when it was left running while the owner was inside the house.

In response, Leicestershire police have issued a warning to residents to stay vigilant to thefts while leaving their cars unattended in the cold winter months.

A police spokesperson said: “We’d ask people to remain vigilant and not leave their vehicles unsecure, it only takes a few minutes for an opportunist thief to strike.

“If you witnessed the incident or if you’ve seen a similar car with the registration number FM62 EAX since 8.10am this morning then please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 and quote crime reference number 8732.
