Developer invites residents to have their say on controversial new neighbourhood

A DEVELOPER planning to build houses at a controversial new neighbourhood planned between Bilton and Cawston is inviting residents to have their say.

Taylor Wimpey is holding public events where residents can meet the project team and share their thoughts on the new community, known as Homestead View.

The developer aims to build up to 800 new homes on land between Alwyn Road, Cawston Lane and Northampton Lane.

It is part of the wider South West Rugby Sustainable Urban Extension allocated in Rugby Borough Council’s Local Plan.

The wider development will comprise 5,000 new homes, employment space and infrastructure, including land for two primary schools and a secondary school, a GP surgery, local shops and public open spaces.

Planning permission has already been granted for employment space, 210 homes and a primary school.

And in March, Homes England’s application for the new one-and-a-quarter mile Homestead Link Road – which will link Cock Robin Wood and Coventry Road in Dunchurch, was approved.

Taylor Wimpey is now preparing a planning application for the site, and is inviting residents to share their views online and at a series of public consultation events.

A spokesperson for Taylor Wimpey said: “We are asking residents to share their views with us and help to shape the new neighbourhood.

“We look forward to hearing ideas and suggestions from local people.”

Three public exhibition events will be held at Dunchurch WI Hall in Southam Road on Friday (October 4) from 3.30-7.30pm; Bawnmore Community Infants School in Bawnmore Road on Saturday (October 5) from 9.30am-1.30pm; and Cawston Community Hall in Scholars Drive on Saturday (October 5) from 2.30p-6.30pm.

Taylor Wimpey plans to submit a full planning application to Rugby Borough Council later this year.
