Dog show to raise money for rescue charity

A DOG show in Crick will raise money for a rescue charity next weekend.

Participating pooches are wanted for Homes for Hounds’ annual Gala Show on Sunday September 1.

Now in its 19th year, the show has 20 pedigree and fun classes for all breeds of companion dog, as well as 20 greyhound-specific classes. There are trophies up for grabs and rosettes for the top six in each event.

Stands and stalls will feature arts and crafts, charities, raffles, tombolas and refreshments.

Homes for Hounds manager Mandy Dale said: “This is our major show of the year and the funds raised play a massive role in our ability to continue our work.

“At any given time, there can be up to 40 dogs in the charity’s kennels. Some have a sad history of neglect and cruelty. Others have passed from one place to another and are desperate for a secure future.

“This show is an opportunity to help all our dogs and to have a fun day out at the same time.”

Some of the charity’s dogs looking for a new home will strut their stuff in the main ring at the gala.

The show takes place on Sunday September 1 at the Holiday Inn, Crick (near junction 18, M1). Registration opens at 10am, judging starts at 11am and admission is £2. All proceeds go towards the charity’s rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming work.
