Donation to help hospice through hard times

A ‘GENEROUS’ donation will help a hospice charity continue to provide its services to people with terminal and life-limiting illnesses in Coventry and Warwickshire.

The Myton Hospices was chosen to receive a grant of just under £3,000 from the Warwickshire Freemasons.

The grant comes through the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF), and will be used so the charity – which runs hospices in Warwick, Rugby and Coventry – can continue to provide its services to people and their families when they need it most.

It is one of 203 grants to hospices around the country from Freemasons. In total £750,000 will be donated to hospices all over England and Wales this year.

This includes £300,000 which will be distributed to each hospice that receives less than 60 per cent funding from the NHS. A further £450,000 will be provided to individual hospices across England and Wales via Hospice UK, the national charity for hospice care.

MCF is partnering with Hospice UK to widen access and address barriers to local hospice services to ensure they are accessible to everyone.

Contributions from Freemasons to hospices have exceeded £14million in England and Wales since 1984.

Caroline Green, Trust Officer at Myton, said: “We’re very grateful to the Provincial Grand Lodge of Warwickshire for their generous grant, which will enable us to continue providing our vital services free of charge now, and in the future.”

A spokesperson from the Warwickshire Freemasons said: “We’re very pleased to have been able to assist The Myton Hospices. They do an outstanding job helping people with terminal or life limiting conditions, as well as supporting their families through very difficult times.”

The Myton Hospices has launched a special friends and supporters scheme called ‘My Myton’.

The charity, which runs hospices in Warwick, Rugby and Coventry, needs to raise £500,000 to avoid reducing its services and having to turn people away.
