Dream comes true as 90-year-old comes face-to-trunk with elephant

A DREAM came true for a 90-year-old care home resident when she was treated to a close-up encounter with her favourite animal – an elephant.

Penney Dinmore, who lives at Anya Court Care Home, enjoyed an all-expenses trip to Woburn Safari Park with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren after winning a wish-granting competition.

The special day out – which included a road safari, a tour of the park, lunch and a face-to-trunk meeting with her new unforgetful friend – came about after Penney won the care home’s Lucky Star competition.

Her visit was arranged by managers at the home after Penney wished to visit the elephants because they have been her favourite animal for decades.

She has a collection of 200 glass elephants, with her favourites being displayed in her bedroom at Anya Court.

She was announced as one of the winners of the competition in January.

Penney’s daughter Jane Weston said: “She was so excited and smiled throughout the day. The weather was excellent, we had a lovely lunch and the highlight of the day was obviously getting up close to the elephants.

“It really was a lovely day, and made my mother very happy.”

Anya Court customer relationship manager Karen Handley said: “I am delighted Penney had such a good time meeting the elephants at the zoo.

“Penney is such a kind and wonderful lady and I am so happy that we have been able to make this wish come true for her.”
