A DRIVEN 11-year-old is gearing up for a major British karting championship.

Morgan Hill, a member of the Project One East Anglia Racing team, has his eyes on the silverware at the biggest racing event of his driving career, the Honda Cadet British Karting Championships 2020.

To compete in the championship, the Avon Valley School pupil had to prove his worth in competency and written exams to get his racing licence from Motor Sport UK, the competition’s governing body.

The championship, which gets underway in March 2020, consists of six race meetings with the winner announced in the autumn. Currently there are over 50 of the best kart drivers from across the UK registered in the competition.

Morgan is eyeing up the silverware at this year’s Honda Cadet British Karting Championships.

After a successful year of racing, which included coming third in the Kimbolton 2019 championships and being announced as 2019 vice-champion in the Whilton Mill championships, Morgan was invited to join the Project One East Anglia team.

Morgan’s kart, which can reach top speeds of over 60mph, is maintain by his biggest supporters, his mum and dad, with Morgan taking a very keen interest in the kart’s engineering and set up.

Proud dad Colin said: “Morgan has been racing since he was eight years old, and now lives and breathes the sport. Since starting he has achieved so much, and we’re very proud of his successes, all achieved through hard work, effort and his own merit.

“What Morgan needs now is help to enable him to have the greatest chance of success at the 2020 championships and we’d love to hear from individuals, business or organisations who can support Morgan and perhaps helps with entry costs, team fees, tyres, maintenance or technical support.”

Avon Valley head teacher Alison Davies said: “It is always wonderful to hear about our students’ interests and achievements outside of school. Morgan is a fantastic young man who is clearly doing very well with his kart racing. I wish him all the very best for the championships and I look forward to hearing about his success.”
