A HAMMER and a Stanley knife were allegedly brandished and threats made during a road rage incident in Rugby town centre.

A Rugby man has been arrested following the incident, which took place on Saturday (July 30) between Lower Hillmorton Road and Railway Terrace.

It is alleged a driver began behaving aggressively after being beeped at.

He reportedly grabbed a hammer from his boot and approached the victim’s car to make threats – and later brandished a Stanley knife while shouting more threats.

The driver then left the scene and the incident was reported to the police.

Later that day, police arrested a 35-year-old Rugby man on suspicion of committing a public order offence and possession of a bladed article.

The man was released on police bail today (Wednesday August 3).

A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police said: “Reports of aggression and threatening behaviour on our roads will be investigated, and those responsible can and do face serious consequences.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage is asked to contact police via www.warwickshire.police.uk/ro/report or by calling 101, citing crime reference number 23/32651/22.
