Drunk driver who crashed into parked car is banned from driving

A DRUNK driver who crashed into a parked car has been banned from driving.

At Warwickshire Magistrates Court, Ioan Macovei, 40, of Alabaster Way pleaded guilty to drink driving.

He was disqualified from driving for 48 months and given a Community Order to complete 150 hours supervised unpaid work within the next 12 months.

He was also ordered to pay £135 costs and a £114 victim surcharge. His guilty plea was taken into account when imposing the sentence.

Macovei had been driving along Percival Road just before midnight on Saturday September 30 when he collided with a parked car. He got out of the car and knocked on someone’s door nearby to ask for help.

When officers arrived he was breathalysed and found to be over two-and-a-half times over the legal limit.

He was brought in to custody for questioning and further tests before he was charged to appear at court.

PC Katie Boughton of Warwickshire Police said: “Driving while over the limit is illegal for good reason.

“Drinking makes it harder to judge speed and distance as it slows your reaction times and affects your coordination skills. Drinking can also give you false confidence. This makes being involved in a collision the biggest risk you take when driving under the influence.

“As police officers, we see the results of drink driving and they are devastating. There is no excuse. It was through no thanks to Macovei that no one was injured. Catching and prosecuting those who drink drive will continue to be a priority in Warwickshire.”
