Dunelm to open new retail park store next week

Rugby Editorial 23rd Aug, 2022 Updated: 23rd Aug, 2022   0

DUNELM is preparing to close the doors of its town centre store after 27 years and open its new branch at a flagship out-of-town retail unit.

The homewares retailer will open its new store in the former Debenhams unit at Elliott’s Field Shopping Park on Monday (August 29).

The new 40,000 sq ft store will provide 35 jobs, and will be home to an exclusive Dorma department, made-to-measure window treatments, a new furniture showroom, and a Pausa kitchen cafe.

It will be officially opened at 9am by local legend Andreas Kattou, whose Bilton Road chip shop Fish Plus has been donating free food to people in need during the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis.

Store Manager Aimee Smith said: “We’re so excited to be opening our new Dunelm Rugby store. The team have been working incredibly hard over the past few weeks to get everything set up and ready and we can’t wait to welcome everyone into our amazing new home. We hope the local Rugby community will love it just as much as we do.”

On opening day (Monday August 29), the first 30 customers through the doors will each receive an exclusive goody bag worth £20, and a £10 gift voucher, and 20 golden tickets ranging £5 to £20 will be hidden around the store.

The former Debenhams store was one of two ‘anchor’ units when the revamped retail park reopened in 2015. It closed down in 2020 during the first Covid lockdown, and did not reopen after the company called in administrators in a bid to shield itself from creditors seizing its assets.

Dunelm will close its branch in Rugby Central Shopping Centre, becoming the latest store to leave Rugby town centre for Elliott’s Field, after Marks & Spencer and Next made the same move in 2015.
