Effort equals success for young mathematicians

IT ALL added up for kids at two Rugby primary schools who won prizes at a regional maths challenge.

A team from Paddox Primary School finished in joint first place at Princethorpe College’s Year 5 Maths Challenge – while a team from Crescent School took joint third place.

They went up against 38 pairs of young mathematicians from 19 regional schools in the competition – which was organised by Douglas Buchanan of DCBEAGLE Challenges, who specialises in running exciting and innovative maths activities for primary school children.

Against the clock, pupils completed a series of puzzles requiring reasoning skills and mathematical knowledge, supported and marked by a team of Princethorpe Year 10 pupils.

The winning teams all received mathematical prizes presented by Princethorpe College’s Head of Maths, Sharon McBride, and everyone who participated received a certificate and a special Princethorpe cookie.

Sharon McBride said: “The College was delighted to host and support this event. It was a great opportunity for all to put their maths skills to the test and proved to be an exciting morning of mathematical challenges. Well done to everyone who took part.”
