Elderly man dies after crash at busy A5 junction

AN ELDERLY man has died after a car crash at a busy junction.

The victim was in one of two cars which collided at the junction of the B4455 Fosse Way and the A5 at Copston Magna on the Leicestershire-Warwickshire border at around 1.30pm yesterday (Monday December 9).

East and West Midlands Ambulance Services and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance all attended the scene of the crash.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, ambulance crews found other motorists trying to assist the elderly man.

“Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of all those at the scene, it was not possible to save him and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.”

A woman in her 30s in the other vehicle was treated by ambulance crews for non life-threatening injuries. She was taken to University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire.
