A FORMER care home worker has been charged in connection with unexplained injuries to a woman in her 80s who later died.

Catalina Ferchiu, 54, of Pool Close, Rugby, who was a senior nurse manager at Overslade Care Home in Overslade Lane, has been charged with ill treatment or wilful neglect of an individual.

An 87-year-old woman was taken to hospital with chest and upper limb injuries on February 2 last year.

She died in hospital three weeks later. The official cause of death was recorded as: “Clinical diagnosed sepsis with pneumonia following hospitalisation for hypovolaemic shock caused by chest and upper limb injuries on a background of over anti-coagulation by warfarin.”

A spokesman for Barchester Healthcare, which runs the home, said Ms Ferchiu was suspended when the allegations were made and was dismissed after an internal investigation.

She will appear at Warwick Magistrates’ Court on March 13.
