AN EXPLOSION ripped through a bungalow in Badby Leys on Saturday evening (August 27).

Residents of the street called fire crews to the Hillside home around 10.15pm, reporting the sound of an explosion – with one saying: “I’ve never heard anything so loud.”

Police said no one was injured in the blaze, which engulfed the empty house.

A spokesman for Warwickshire Fire Service said: “Fire Control received a call to a fire following sounds of an explosion involving a bungalow, Badby Leys, Rugby.

“Two crews from Rugby attended. This incident involved one residential building approximately five metres by 12 metres.

“One hundred per cent of building was involved in fire. Fire crews used hose reels and jets to extinguish this fire.”

An investigation is ongoing.
