Farm shop near Rugby wins coveted lifestyle award for second year running

‘THRILLED’ staff at a farm shop near Rugby have celebrated winning a coveted lifestyle award for the second year running.

Malt Kiln Farm Shop has been named the Warwickshire and West Midlands winner of the Farm Shop or Deli category in the Muddy Stilettos Awards 2024.

The Stretton-under-Fosse shop won thanks to a public vote, and will now contest the lifestyle website’s National Awards this summer.

Owner Chris Lea said: “We’re absolutely thrilled.

“We’re extremely grateful to everybody who took the time to vote for us. As a small family-run business with three generations of the same family involved, it makes us feel a valued company in the community.

“I think our supporters voted for us because they feel a connection to where they buy their food. We’re a real working farm shop, meaning we rear our own beef, lamb and pork on our family farm and sell it in the shop.

“Additionally, having our seasonal Pick Your Own (PYO) in the summer and October, openly visible to all our customers as they arrive, really emphasises the directness of our produce.

“Many of our customers comment on how frequently they have visited our PYO over the years and decades. To be a tradition to families is very special. Sharing the change in seasons and offering educational awareness of where food comes from whilst families have fun and make memories is unique.

“Being named the best Farm Shop or Deli in Warwickshire and the West Midlands is a testament to every person involved in making Malt Kiln Farm Shop what it is. From our customers to our staff, past and present and local suppliers, thank you all for your continued support over the past 32 years.”

Now in their 11th year, the Muddy Stilettos Awards celebrate regional independent businesses across 21 different lifestyle categories.

Other winners this year include Warwick Arts Centre, Coombe Abbey Hotel, Coffee on the Corner in Kenilworth, Suzanne Evetts in Southam, and Leamington businesses The Terrace, Nana’s Japanese, Fit Nix Pro, Hair @ 51, Sanctuary Eleven, and Grace & Vine.

Muddy Stilettos’ Warwickshire and West Midlands Editor Laura Kearns said: “These awards began 11 years ago to give local lifestyle indies a chance to shine. It’s been an honour to showcase these most creative, innovative lifestyle businesses.

“The response to this year’s Muddy Awards has been incredible, with thousands voting to support an amazing array of local businesses big and small.”
