Firefighters tackle blaze at St Cross Hospital

FIREFIGHTERS rushed to Rugby’s hospital last night (Thursday January 4) after a blaze broke out.

Five fire engines attended the Hospital of St Cross in Barby Road to tackle the fire.

The alarm was raised just after 10pm when smoke was seen coming from the Octopus Centre, a training building separate to the main hospital and away from clinical areas.

The fire took place on the ground floor of the building. Crews used breathing apparatus, hose reel jets, thermal imaging cameras and fans to clear the smoke.

A spokesperson for University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust said: “No patients, services or staff have been affected and the situation was quickly and efficiently dealt with. Fire crews have now left the site and we thank them for their prompt response.”
