A FIRE at a Rugby storage company has been extinguished, with all staff and customers unharmed.

The blaze broke out inside a stairwell at Rugby Self Store yesterday (Monday July 11).

A spokesperson for the company said: “The fire was dealt with quickly and efficiently by the fire brigade who isolated and contained the fire to the stairwell. Thankfully, everyone on site was evacuated and no one was injured.

“We can confirm that as the fire was contained the fire did not spread to the store and reach any of our customers units and possessions.

“We would like to say a massive thank you to the fire brigade for attending site so quickly, containing the fire and for keeping everyone safe.”

They added the site, at Parkfield Business Park on the A4071 Western Relief Road, would be closed until further notice to investigate the cause of the fire and ensure the store is safe.

It follows a fire which damaged the former premises of Frankie and Benny’s on Friday (July 8), sending up a plume of smoke which could be seen from miles away.

The building at Junction One Retail Park has been empty since the restaurant closed in 2020.
