Five arrested during crackdown on vehicle crime

Rugby Editorial 22nd Sep, 2018   0

FIVE people were arrested in Rugby during a police crackdown on vehicle crime.

Officers and dog handlers patrolled known hotspot areas in the town as part of Operation Highway, an initiative launched across Warwickshire in June to reduce vehicle crime offences.

Five arrests were made for offences including recall to prison and drink driving, and eight vehicles were seized for offences including driving without insurance and disqualified driving.

A man in his 30s was arrested after his vehicle was stopped in Dunchurch. He was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, and the vehicle was seized for no insurance and driving with a revoked licence.

Inspector Paul Speddings, who is leading the operation, said: “We are pleased with these results and hope they demonstrate another day of activity to tackle vehicle crime within the county.

“We are working hard to prevent and disrupt further crimes, and have invested a number of resources into this operation. Further activity will continue in the coming months.”

Throughout the day, crime prevention workshops were delivered by Safer Neighbourhood Teams, and leaflets and crime prevention packs were handed out to communities.
