Flooding disrupts Rugbeians' Christmas shopping as river reaches record high level

Rugby Editorial 24th Dec, 2020   0

FLOODING has disrupted many Rugbeians’ last-minute Christmas shopping plans as the River Avon at Rugby reached it’s highest ever level this morning (December 24).

Heavy rain overnight saw the river burst its banks and flood car parks at Tesco and Elliott’s Field Shopping Park in Leicester Road, as well as the Avon Mill roundabout and parts of Newbold Road and Boughton Road.

The local stretch of the River Avon reached a highest ever recorded level of 3.76m at 9.30am. It had dropped to 3.57m just before 1pm.

Stagecoach Midlands has altered bus services due to the floods. Follow @StagecoachMids on Twitter for the latest updates.
