A COLOURFUL Hindu celebration of life filled a village hall with flowers, music and dance.
Bathukamma Festival was celebrated at Dunchurch Village Hall.
Women dressed in traditional attire participated in the rituals of Bathukamma – Goddess of Life – by making stacks of flowers, dancing and singing to celebrate life.
The festival, which originated in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh, the southern part of India, is celebrated alongside Dasara Navaratri – another Hindu Festival which celebrates the power of women and the triumph of good over evil.
Organisers Shilpa Kuruva, Sandhya Nagula, Lalitha Pitla, HariPriya Chaturvedula, Sravanthi Daripally and Madhuri Boppudi said: “This year’s celebrations are more vibrant and colourful with women participating in great numbers. In fact, we had to stop taking entries as the hall does not have the capacity to accommodate everyone.
“Next year we will plan a bigger event so as not to turn away anyone who wants to attend this beautiful cultural celebration.”
