FUND-raisers helped feed hungry Rugbeians by collecting money for the town’s foodbank at this year’s Rugby Food Festival.
Members of Rugby Labour Party presented a cheque for £200 to Rugby Foodbank during the Hope4 charity’s open day.
They raised the cash through donations at their stall during the festival, where they promoted food blogger Jack Munroe’s Hunger in the UK campaign by demonstrating how to cook fun meals on a limited budget.
Debbie Bannigan, the group’s prospective parliamentary candidate, said: “The community gave very generously, which was very encouraging. It was a pleasure to deliver the cheque and also be shown around the newly refurbished Hope4 facilities.
“Many people stopped to tell us about how the foodbank was so important in a family member’s experience, though all agreed they are furious about how they are now required – mostly due to Universal Credit issues or sanctions.”
