A FORMER music tutor has been jailed for historic sexual offences against a girl.

Nicholas Long of Gorse Close in Rugby pleaded guilty to five counts of indecent assault and two counts of indecency with a child.

Long – who was 30 at the time – befriended the 14-year-old girl after giving her a lift home. He then sexually assaulted her several times in Rugby between 2001 and 2002.

At Warwick Crown Court on Tuesday (June 9) 50-year-old Long was jailed for three years and eight months. He must also sign the sex offenders’ register for life.

Det cons Ant Episcopo from Rugby Serious and Complex Crime Team said: “Long admitted he knew what he was doing was wrong and justice has now been done for his victim who has had to live with what he did to her for so many years.

“I would like to commend her bravery. She has shown great courage and resolve throughout this investigation.

“We will investigate all reports of sexual offences, no matter how much time has passed. We will always fully support victims and do everything in our power to bring offenders to justice.”

Victims or child abuse or those worried about the wellbeing of a child should call police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
