Free Sports Days to celebrate Commonwealth Games

Rugby Editorial 25th Jul, 2022   0

A FREE weekend of sports in celebration of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will kick off at Draycote Water on Saturday (July 30).

Visitors will be able to take part in Sports Day activities such as the egg and spoon race, a space hopper relay, and a tug of war.

Meanwhile, local sports clubs including Caldecott Park Bowling Club and Draycote Water Sailing Club will be showcasing their activities and inviting visitors to give their sport a try.

A big screen will also be showing live coverage of the Games, so families will be able to see athletes from around the Commonwealth go for gold in events including badminton and hockey.

Donna Marshall, Visitor Experience Manager at Severn Trent which owns the site near Dunchurch, said: “As Birmingham 2022’s Official Nature and Carbon Neutral Partner, we’re really passionate about leaving a lasting social and environmental legacy following the Games – and what a legacy it will leave for Warwickshire and the wider region if we can help more young people engage with sport.

“Whether you fancy yourself as the next sporting superstar or are just looking for a fun day out to break up the summer holidays, we look forward to seeing everyone get involved.”

The sports days will take place from midday to 4pm on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 July.
