FREE Wi-Fi internet is now available in Lutterworth town centre.
The new wireless network also includes a digital footfall system which shows local businesses how the town centre is being used, what days of the week are busier, and how long visitors are staying.
The information can help businesses plan their opening hours and indicate the success of town events. The latest marketing data can also be shared to registered users about local visitor promotions and news.
The system has been introduced by Harborough District Council.
The council’s Economic Development Manager Rebecca Tomlin said: “It is essential that our local market towns invest in infrastructure to keep up with new technologies. We are delighted to launch a combined free Wi-Fi and marketing solution to benefit businesses and improve connectivity for visitors to Lutterworth.”
Ian Jones, owner of independent town centre business Max Electrical, said: “Our shop in Church Street is in the centre of Lutterworth so we are pleased to house one of the three antennae units.
“Knowing how people are using the town centre will be useful. The bonus of free Wi-Fi will encourage people to stay longer in town which is good news for local businesses.”
Shoppers can access free Wi-Fi in the central areas of Lutterworth by selecting ‘Lutterworth Guest Wi-Fi’ on their mobile devices.
