Friends of St Cross appeal total is Christmas present from Rugby

THE FRIENDS of St Cross had a happy Christmas after discovering their charity fundraising appeal had surpassed £127,000 – more than doubling their target.

The Friends’ Jubilee Appeal was originally set up to support the relocation of the Blood Taking Unit at St Cross Hospital. The unit was officially reopened on December 14 and the Friends plan to use their surplus to continue supporting the new unit.

The last fundraising events of the year to support the appeal were two carol concerts featuring performances from Dunchurch Singers and the Warwick Diatonic Choir.

The Friends hosted a range of charity challenges and special events to raise money for the appeal, including abseiling and climbing events, charity raffles and individual donations from groups and businesses.

A spokesperson for the Friends said: “We are truly humbled by this level of support which has enabled us to carry on meeting requests for support while delivering the Friends Blood Taking Unit of which we are immensely proud.

“During the year the success of the Appeal has enabled us to continue to meet a wide variety of requests for support from the hospital and the local community service at the Orchard Centre and we are confident that these have also made a difference to the experience of patients using these services.

“Of course the work goes on and we look forward to supporting the hospital as it expands its range of services in the coming months and years. And so we are always keen to hear from people and organisations who would like to volunteer or help with our fundraising efforts.”
