Fund-raiser launched to supply life-saving shields for NHS using 3D printing

AN ONLINE fund-raiser has been launched to provide vital life-saving shields for the NHS using 3D printing.

It is the brainchild of Gary Stocking, head engineer at entertainment sound and lighting specialists DMX Stagetech and a trustee of RugbyRatt (Rugby Area Talent Trust), who has started a GoFundMe page.

Gary explained: Given the current situation and the help the NHS has provided my immediate family over the last several decades, I have decided to devote as much of my spare time to 3D printing supplies required by our NHS.

Gary is currently producing around 30 shields a day. Each shield takes approximately 25 minutes to print. One roll of 3D printer filament costs around £23 and makes 60 shields.

He also plans to purchase the acetate shield parts, prices for which at the moment vary dramatically due to current demand.

Garry added: “Although my time is free, the materials required to make these items are not and I only have a limited amount of funds I can put into the project.

“I am asking for people to help support my very important project financially to allow to buy the required materials and maybe another machine to speed up the printing. In return I will post regular updates and provide details and records of any expenditure along my journey.

“Donations don’t have to be large. It all counts and helps to support our doctors, nurses and the rest of our NHS and community.
