Future mayors take a peek inside Rugby's corridors of power

AMBITIOUS potential future mayors have been treated to a glimpse inside Rugby’s corridors of power.

Having visited Henry Hinde Infant School to launch a ‘what would your perfect town look like’ project, Mayor Belinda Garcia invited pupils to visit her at the Town Hall.

She shared maps and plans with the children and answered their questions about the developments being constructed in and around Rugby and what facilities they will provide.

The children were fascinated to learn about what being a Councillor entails and how Mayor Garcia was elected to her role for this year, further enhancing their understanding of the Rule of Law and democracy. Some ambitious pupils said they wanted to follow in the Mayor’s footsteps in the future.

The children’s next task is to work in groups to plan their perfect town and build a model of it. Mayor Garcia plans to go back to the school later this term to see the completed projects.

The Mayor also welcomed the 1st Overslade Rainbow Girlguides as part of their activities to celebrate 30 years of the Rainbows.

After Mayor Garcia told them about her role in the Council Chamber, they were taken to her Parlour where the girls sang happy birthday and enjoyed a slice of their special celebration cake.
