A FUTURISTIC piece of technology is helping people with dementia at a Rugby care home.
A Magic Table – which allows residents to play with light and music – has been installed at Red House Care Home.
The award-winning innovation consists of a series of interactive games projected on to a table which respond to residents’ hand and arm movements.
The technology has been designed to help those with later stage dementia be more active, and encourage social, cognitive and physical stimulation.
Games include making music, fishing, feeding birds and playing with puppies.
Steph Robson, manager of the Dunchurch Road care home, said: “We had the magic table installed in our lounge and the impact was instant. It is renowned for its positive affect on people living with dementia.
“We have seen a marked improvement in the health and well-being of our residents, who use it daily. We are fundraising to buy the Magic Table at the end of the rental period.”
