General Election - Lib Dem candidate signs up to anti-suicide campaign

JERRY Roodhouse, the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Rugby and Bulkington, has pledged his support to the Samaritans Local Action Saves Lives campaign to help prevent suicide in Rugby.

Mr Roodhouse said: “As a Warwickshire County Councillor I supported the suicide strategy which ensures that the council have in place an effective suicide plan.

“Members of Parliament have huge influence and should I be elected on June 8 I will use my position to help constituents who are struggling to cope.

“I fully support the campaign and I hope it helps to put suicide prevention on the agenda in Rugby.”

Mr Roodhouse also endorsed his party’s manifesto – launched on Wednesday (May 17) – which proposes increasing income tax by 1p in the pound to boost spending on key public services, holding a referendum on the final Brexit deal, and legalising cannabis.

He added: “Liberal Democrats have a plan for a fairer Britain where people are decent to each other, with good schools and hospitals, a clean environment and an innovative economy. Not Theresa May’s cold, mean-spirited Britain or a Brexit deal that doesn’t protect our jobs, the economy and public services.

“I believe in a society where every young person, no matter what their background or circumstance, can grow up to achieve anything they set their mind to. Liberal Democrats will always fight to protect our health and care system, and ensure it can carry on delivering for future generations.”
