Get revved-up for Rugby Bikefest

Correspondent 20th May, 2017   0

REVVED-UP Rugbeians are in for some wheelie good fun when Rugby Bikefest roars into town tomorrow (Sunday May 21).

The festival, which takes place from 10am to 4pm, will be kick-started when hundreds of bikes ride in.

Festival-goers will also be able to try the Wheelie Machine – a motorcycle simulator which will give wannabe-riders a virtual taste of life in the fast lane.

Among other activities at the festival, organised by Rugby First and Rugby Borough Council, will be displays, stalls, children’s activities, and refreshments.

Local bands are set to further rev up crowds as they take to stages in Market Place, Caldecott Park and Mr Robinson’s on Church Street.

And there will also be a guest appearance from former British Street Bike Champion and six times winner of the Bulldog Bash, Dave Baughan.

Bikers can park for free on the day at the Old Market Place car park, while free car parking will be on offer at the neighbouring John Barford car park.

Local motorbike groups Rugby RAG and Rugby Free Riders will host a launch party today (Saturday May 20) from 6pm at the St Thomas Cross pub in Newton, featuring bands Spitfire, Aramantus and Overdrive. Tickets cost £5 on the gate (includes overnight camping), and all proceeds will be donated to Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice.

DJs The Captain, Mick Entwistle and Mark will be performing a rock disco tomorrow (Sunday) from 12-4pm, returning to the site of the legendary first Free Rock Disco in Rugby which ran throughout the 70s at The Exchange Pub – now Bar 29.

FESTIVAL-goers can share their photos and videos of the event via a new mobile app, which is being test-launched by music management company Big Help Management.

The new app, called Amondo, is designed to gather all the highlights of events in one place.

Visitors can get in the picture by downloading the app and posting photos to any social media sites with the hashtags #rugbybikefestival and #rugbyobserver.
