GOOD causes in the Rugby area have received a windfall.
Brownsover Community School, St Nicholas Church in Willoughby and St Marie’s Winter Shelter Project are among the causes to receive a share of £5,580 from the Heart of England Co-operative Society’s Helping Hearts Awards Scheme.
Lawford Utd FC, St Faith’s Church in Kilsby, Rubbish Friends in Southam, and the Rugby Theatre Youth Project also benefited.
Brownsover Community School was awarded £200 to run its after-school cookery club, while Lawford Utd will use its £330 for kits for the Under 7s team.
St Faith’s Church was given £300 towards repairs for the church roof, while Rugby Theatre put £550 towards its summer youth production, The Addams Family.
Other groups to benefit include the 1st Rugby Boys Brigade which was awarded £500 to its summer camp, and Avon Dassett and Fenny Compton Parochial Church Council, which received £500 to help with repairs to The Church of St Peter and St Clare after lead was stolen from the roof.
Southam and District Lions Club, Friends of Cawston Grange PTA, Milaap Community Group, Rubbish Friends in Southam, St Peter and St John’s Church, Southam in Bloom and the Warwickshire Federation of Young Farmers also received awards.
Jo Dyke, Community and Membership Adviser at the Heart of England Co-operative Society, said: “The latest round has brought some great applications of a wide and varied nature.
“We had many more applications for help with raffles, and within the £5,580 we handed out £900 worth of raffle prizes for good causes.
“We would urge anyone else in Coventry, Warwickshire, south Leicestershire and Northamptonshire who knows of any other not-for-profit community organisation that may benefit from the Helping Hearts Awards Scheme to pick up an application form from any one of our Food stores or Funeral homes.”
Launched in 2000, the Helping Hearts Awards Scheme has awarded more than £1million to charities and worthy causes across the Society’s trading area.
Awards range from £10 to £1,000 and groups are able to apply for financial assistance every year.
