THE HIDDEN history behind Rugby town centre is being uncovered by a new self-guided tour this summer.
Rugby Local History Research Group has put together a town centre trail which takes participants on a journey into the town’s past, revealing the town’s ties with the Monaco royal family, how the hologram was invented in Rugby, and more.
The group’s Treasurer David Holton said: “Our group was pleased to be involved in providing information to be used in the local history trail and hope that it provides an entertaining yet thought-provoking introduction to participants.
“We are proud of our town and what we have discovered and continue to discover of its rich and diverse history.”
The trail has been put together in partnership with Rugby First and Hunt’s Bookshop.
Rugby First Business Director Linda Lowne said: “We are all very aware and proud of Rugby’s association with the game of Rugby, but the town has so much hidden history.
“The idea behind the trail was to bring this to life in a fun and exciting way and make people more aware of it, as well as helping to increase footfall, spend and support the town centre business community during the summer period.”
The free tours – which are suitable for older children and adults, and take around an hour to complete – run until August 31, excluding Sundays and the Bank Holiday, between 9.30am and 3pm. Tours start at Hunt’s Bookshop. No booking is required.
