Hospice fund-raising group celebrates milestone

Rugby Editorial 5th Oct, 2019   0

A GROUP which has been raising vital funds for a local hospice for 37 years has celebrated a major milestone.

Members of the Rugby 250+ Club have now raised £250,000 for Myton Hospice through a local monthly lottery.

The group originally formed as the Rugby 250 Club in 1982 as a way of raising money for Warwick Myton Hospice, which opened the same year.

The original aim was to have 250 people signed up to the lottery so they could raise £3,000 for Myton. The club succeeded in reaching its target and was so popular that the committee which set it up decided to continue.

Club Secretary Richard Avery said: “It’s been quite the achievement. That first year was a success, and Myton was still in its infancy, then the committee decided to carry on raising money and here we are today.

“We have known many people over the years who have had exceptional care from Myton.”

Sophie Duncan, Community Fundraiser at The Myton Hospices, said: “The Rugby 250+ Club are a vital part of Myton; not only do they raise much-needed funds for us, but they also help us to spread the word in the communities we serve.

“Thank you all so much for the support you have given to us over the years.”
