UNWANTED cans can be donated to help boost the morale of the long-term unemployed.

The Benn Partnership Centre has struck a deal with a local firm who will pay the centre for any empty aluminium cans it collects.

Any money generated will then be used to send the centre’s Work Club members on a visit to the Houses of Parliament.

Busker Errol Alves will also be collecting in the town centre in the coming weeks.

The organisation hosts a Work Club that helps the unemployed to return to work by offering mentoring, training and IT support. Over 20 per cent of people registered have found work.

Gita Natarajan from the centre said: “We have had quite a few success stories so far, but some of our Work Club members have not been as successful in finding work and we would like to organise a day out for them to boost their morale.

“Their lack of income means they are unable to travel outside of Rugby for years on end. We are therefore raising monies through various activities in order to organise a trip away .”

Cans can be dropped of at the centre on Railway Terrace on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays between 10am and 1pm or by calling 01788 553033 to arrange collection.
