‘Inspirational’ Rugby woman wins surprise hamper of goodies in recognition of voluntary work

AN ‘INSPIRATIONAL’ Rugby woman was given a special festive surprise in appreciation for her voluntary work and her positive outlook on life.

Jane Muers was presented with a hamper full of goodies last month, after she was nominated for the treat by staff at Scrivens Opticians and Hearing Care.

The 76-year-old, who has been a customer at the opticians’ Rugby branch for over 40 years, was singled out for praise because of her voluntary work with Rugby Dementia Support Group – and her general zest for life.

A keen cyclist, Jane still clocks up over 30 miles on her bike every week – and even helped the team at the Regent Street opticians raise money for Alzheimer’s Society when she joined in their fund-raising Bikeathon.

Jane, who with husband Robin has three adult children and five grandchildren, said: “I am so touched and very surprised by this kind recognition. I don’t think I deserve it, but it was a wonderful Christmas treat!

“I shared the benefit of my festive goodies with members and my fellow volunteers at Rugby Dementia Support.”

Branch manager Sarah Cave presented Jane with her gift, and added: “It was part of our company’s festive campaign to celebrate customers who we felt deserved a treat. Jane is such an inspiration and always has a smile on her face.

“Every time she comes in to see us for appointments, she is happy and always an absolute pleasure to have in the branch. She deserves any treats we can send her way.”
