TWO SPORTING heroes from Rugby were guests of honour at their home town’s sports centre.

Invictus Games medal-winners Dr Jen Warren and James McGill spoke about their experiences at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre on Saturday (November 25).

Dr Jen Warren, lives in Rugby with her husband Jon and three-year-old daughter Sally, won nine medals at the tournament in Toronto in September.

And Rugby-born James McGill, who now lives in Coventry, brought home two medals from the international Paralympic-style event for wounded, injured or sick armed services personnel and veterans.

Jen suffered severe nerve injuries which affected her ability to use her left leg after a 2008 skiing accident, and now predominantly uses a wheelchair.

James’ left arm was shattered when an explosive device was activated by the Taliban while he was serving in Afghanistan, resulting in nerve reconstruction in his left forearm with the addition of a titanium plate and pins to support bone structure.

The local heroes were invited by the Rugby Sport for the Disabled Association (RSDA) to acknowledge their achievements.

Greeted by association members as well as Mayor Belinda Garcia, the athletes were friendly and informative, passing around their medals and letting people wear them and have their photos taken.
