CREATIVE youngsters have been busy at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum during half-term week.

The SMART programme, a week-long art activities event, launched on Friday (February 12) with a Valentine’s themed Love Heart Hunt, which is running throughout the holiday week.

Along the way, kids flocked to a free ‘Kawaii Balloons’ workshop, celebrating the art gallery’s new exhibition – Kawaii, Crafting the Japanese Culture of Cute.

A Masks and Bags workshop on Wednesday (February 17) also took inspiration from kawaii, giving children the chance to create cute bags or masks to take home.

And Observer photographer Jon Mullis joined youngsters who stepped back in time on Saturday (February 13) at a free Revive the Romans workshop, where re-enactors in the guise of Roman craftsmen donned period costume to tell all about their life and wares.

The SMART programmes closes with Paint and Glaze sessions on Friday (February 19) and Saturday (February 20). Children can paint their own plates, cups and more. Prices start from £8.

Children must be accompanied by an adult at all SMART activities.
