A ‘KIND and thoughtful’ Rugby woman has celebrated her 101st birthday.
Edna Griffis was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents of Overslade House Care Home to celebrate the occasion.
Edna was born in 1923 and raised in Coventry. She met and married Ronald, who was in the RAF and was drafted out to the Middle East while they were married.
The couple led a colourful life during their 65-year marriage.
Edna loved to go dancing with Ronald at Courtaulds Social Club in Coventry.
During the Second World War, Edna made camouflage covers for aircraft, when they were made out of wood with canvas covers – and once the war was over, she moved on to making car seat covers.
An excellent seamstress, Edna made many clothes for her and her friends’ children.
Edna is mother to Nick and Marsha, has three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Edna said: “Am I really 101-years-old? Well I never!”
She added that her advice for life was to simply enjoy oneself and be happy.
Violeta Baesu, general manager of Overslade House, added: “Edna has always been such a kind and thoughtful lady. We’re delighted to be celebrating a truly remarkable woman as she reaches another amazing milestone.”
