CHRISTMAS cheer and goodwill is all around thanks to a group of kind-hearted primary school children.

Pupils from Boughton Leigh Junior School have written poems about positivity and love – Christmas gifts that don’t cost money – to warm people’s hearts during difficult times.

Inspired by the moving Christmas TV advert for John Lewis, they penned their inspiring poems and posted them through the letterboxes of neighbours and local businesses near the Brownsover school.

Teacher Jenny Drake, the school’s co-lead for English reading, said they felt it was an important thing to do with times being so tight.

She said: “We chatted about how the tone of the advert was just right this year, and incredibly moving.

“We asked children to complete a reading activity relating to the advert before embarking on a writing activity.

“The children reacted amazingly and really connected with the message – and were eager to share their messages of positivity.

“We delivered them to our neighbours to spread some holiday cheer – and hopefully inspire people to spread Christmas love even though times are tough.”

Writing lead Jo Combes added: “’Christmas can be a joyous time, but can also be tough for some.

“People may feel lonely, they may be struggling with finances or with their mental health. Kindness doesn’t need to cost anything.

“We just wanted to spread a little Christmas cheer again, just like we have done before.”
