Knife-wielding robber struck Hillmorton shop on Christmas Eve

A MASKED attacker robbed a Hillmorton shop at knifepoint on Christmas Eve.

At around 9.40pm on Thursday December 24, a man was seen behaving suspiciously outside One Stop on Lower Hillmorton Road. He entered the shop and pulled a dark mask over his face.

The man jumped over the counter and threatened a shop staff member with a knife, demanding the till be opened.

The employee was then forced to hand over the cash tray from the till as the offender pushed the knife into his side and told him to hurry up.

Entering customers were warned to leave for their own safety by the employee, who escaped the ordeal uninjured.

The attacker emptied the cash into a black bin liner and fled from the scene. As he ran along Lower Hillmorton Road and Vere Road he was chased by number of people who had been at the Jolly Abbot pub before he managed to escape in a small silver car.

He was described as a man of mixed race, just over 6ft, slim build with dark eyes and a dark beard which could be seen underneath his ‘Halloween-style’ mask. He was wearing dark clothing, dark gloves and was carrying a stainless steel knife with a 6in blade.

Investigating officers would like to hear from anyone who was near Lower Hillmorton Road on Christmas Eve and may have seen something significant. Anyone with information is asked to call Warwickshire Police on 101.

A 30-year old man was arrested on December 25 in connection with this incident and has been released on police bail until January 31.
