A FIRE which started at a three-acre landfill site near Rugby on Wednesday (December 8) is expected to last for two days.

The fire broke out at Ling Hall Landfill in Lawford Heath on Wednesday morning.

Speaking on Wednesday evening, a spokesperson for Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters from across the county have attended a large fire at Ling Hall Landfill in Lawford Heath today.

“In the initial stages, the fire generated a lot of smoke and local residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed as a precautionary measure.

“Five fire engines and a high volume pump have been at the site dealing with the fire, which involved three acres of landfill. Our crews have been working closely with the Environment Agency to reduce the impact to the environment.

“It is expected this incident will be ongoing for the next 48 hours.”
