Lantern parade lights up town centre

THE LIGHT fantastic – hundreds helped to light up Rugby town centre by joining in with a festive lantern parade.

The parade started and finished at St Andrew’s Church.

Rugbeians made their own colourful lanterns at workshops hosted in various locations – including St Andrews Church, Art at the Alex and The Scrum.

Led by local samba band Sambassadors of Groove and Mayor Maggie O’Rourke, they headed out into the town centre, before returning to the church for hot chocolate and some traditional Christmas carols.

Hunt’s Bookshop also offered story-telling sessions as part of the event.

Linda Lowne – Business Manager at Rugby First, which organised the event alongside St Andrew’s Church – said: “I was delighted with how the event went. It was great to see so many people turn out for the procession and get involved with the workshops.

“I would like to say a special thank you to St Andrews Church and all those businesses that got involved, along with the Mayor who joined the procession. It just goes to show what we can achieve when everyone works together.”
